Provenance and correlation of hydrocarbon reservoir sandstones using heavy mineral techniques

This presentation is designed to provide an outline of the basic principles and practice of heavy mineral analysis and associated techniques. These techniques have been proven to be key in identifying the provenance of sandstones in hydrocarbon-bearing sedimentary basins.  Stratigraphic changes in heavy mineral provenance can form the basis of a framework that can be used to correlate reservoir sandstones across a basin.

Case studies will be used to provide detail of the extent to which heavy mineral techniques are being used in provenance studies and correlation of reservoir sandstones.
